pride and joy

Greta came home from preschool last week with a 'work of art' that I was impressed with. It is the city/country unit at school and she had a picture that she had not only colored, but had added drawings to as well. We were looking at it together and she was telling me all about it. "Look mom, the bird in the sky is singing so loud they can hear it all the way to the city. And do you see the boy swimming in the lake? And the girl taking a nap in the grass?" Wow, my girl is really smart I thought. Probably much more mature than the other preschoolers. Then I glanced to the city side of the paper... "What's going on with the cars here" I asked. "Oh," she answered, "that's just the bad guys shooting the cops."

Mother ego deflated.

quickie

Hurley has gone back to live with Grandma Judie. He was here for 2 weeks but was still terrified of the kids (and Dustin and I most of the time.) We are looking into a golden retriever puppy to join our family.

I had to go back in to the doctor on Friday to get new antibiotics... my sinus infection was getting worse. They also put me on steroids to help with my sinus infection as well as the fluid in my ears.

I woke up last night at 2 a.m. with a sharp pain in my mouth. Somehow a piece of my back tooth had broken off. I made it to the dentist today and they were able to patch it up. I'm still numb and am not looking forward to when the novacaine wears off... they had to dig around the gum tissue quite a bit and I'm guessing it's going to be sore for a few days.

This week is spring break for the kids. We are ready for the rain to be done... not too much fun when you're stuck inside all day!

quarantine... again

The Minute Clinic in the Buffalo Cub Foods certainly made some money on Monday night. All 5 of us went in to get tested for Strep. It turns out that everyone but Greta has it, plus Linus has an ear infection and I have a sinus infection.

This strain of Strep is a wierd one. No one was complaining of a sore throat or fever... we had all just been under the weather a little and had a few stomach aches.

So yesterday the boys were home from school and Dustin had to work from home. Unfortunately for me, Miles and Linus couldn't be at school because they were still contagious but they were feeling fine... and bouncing off of the walls!

The new Brown

Dustin and I have been thwarting the acquisition of a pet despite the constant pleas from our kids for as long as I can remember. We've had lots of reasons to say no: time, space, money, shedding... but I'm here to say we've caved, and all because of a pretty face.

Long story short, someone that Dustin's mom knows had a dog that they were not able to care for anymore. She had the dog at her place for the weekend and I have to admit, we fell for him. The dog is a sweet 2 year old who is great with the kids, doesn't bark, and is really calm. The last owner had named him Snowball but since that's a stupid name for a black dog we've renamed him Hurley, after one of our favorite characters on LOST.

So, here he is, the newest member of the Brown family:

everything but the kitchen sink

I started this blog in part to document our daily life for my kids' scrapbooks... and lately I haven't been doing a very good job. This post is going to be a catch-up of sorts and will most likely be all over the place!

The sickness has finally made it's way out of our house. All three kids were hit, all twice with different viruses. Thankfully Spring is just around the corner because I am feeling the need to open the windows and detoxify the house. I'm also getting stir crazy... I need more sun and less snow!

In the last week Greta has decided that she doesn't want to go to preschool anymore. She had a meltdown the last time I dropped her off and I could hear her screaming for me as I left the building. This has been odd because we have never had this problem before. On the first day of preschool she basically pushed me out the door . I'm guessing that this is just a stage... and I'm hoping that it ends soon!

We have Kindergarten round-up for Greta in a couple of weeks. I can't believe that next September we will be sending our baby to school. The days seem to last forever but the years are flying by!

I was at scrapcamp last weekend... SO much fun! I love these weekend getaways. I get to chat with lots of friends that I only see a few times a year AND scrapbook too... it doesn't get much better than that! (Unless it was on a sandy beach by the ocean...) Dustin and the kids always have a good time while I'm away. This time they went to Barnes and Noble to but a few books and went to a movie. Miles even passed up a birthday party to spend the whole weekend with dad!

We had a bonfire at Dustin's mom's house last night. Dustin's sister and her kids have moved back from Fargo and are living with his mom so it was like a little party. The weather was pretty nice and we were able to burn cardboard that has been piling up in our basement from last Christmas!
