Spoke too soon

Yesterday I was talking with the boys about heading back to school this week after a week off from spring break. I said "I think we can pack the snowpants away until next year!"

5-8 inches predicted today. God has one crazy sense of humor.

Easter pics

Miles and Linus are at the stage where they really don't want me to take pictures of them anymore. That's why the top pic is the best one I have of the three kids together. I thought I would have a few more years before they put up a fight...
The second picture is of Greta and the Barbie she got in her Easter basket. It's a "Barbie can be anything: A baby doctor!" She loves it and has dubbed her 'Dr. Welch.'

my boys

Miles and Linus left with Dustin's mom this morning for a few days. They are headed on a train down to Hastings to visit Dustin's sister Rashelle. It is really strange to have the house so quiet, especially since this is spring break and my house should be shaking from all of the activity! Dustin has taken a vacation day tomorrow to spend some time with Greta and I so that should be really fun. I'm guessing that she's going to want to spend most of the time one-on-one with her dad... she is such a daddy's girl! Maybe I'll be able to get started on painting the entryway!

It's funny how I look forward to peace and quiet but as soon as my boys leave the house I miss them terribly.

WOW

There was an awesome sketch done during the church service today. Even if you've seen it, it's worth watching again here. The group from the Quarry did a fantastic job. I heard lots of sniffles afterward... I don't think there was anyone in the place that wasn't moved by this.

Here you go Steph

A carmel filled Drumstick. The most delicious treat known to mankind.

The Gift that keeps on giving

I've never been a huge fan of Thanksgiving. Don't care for the food much, but as a kid I enjoyed the fact that we got to have a 4 day weekend. I guess it just never really made sense to me; the story of the pilgrims and the Indians was just that, a story.

This is the time of year that I truly get the "thanksgiving" feel. Good Friday always brings out different emotions. Sadness for what Jesus had to endure, happiness at the thought of heaven, a little guilt because my eternal happiness is brought about because of His huge sacrifice. Dustin once heard Easter weekend called "The Super Bowl of Christianity." I like that.

Here are a few things I sometimes take for granted but always put a smile on my face:

  • my family
  • great friends, near and far
  • a house that is heated in the winter and cooled in the summer
  • a warm, sunny March day... even when they are few and far between
  • the first warm day of spring that I can roll my van window down and sing to the radio
  • the sound of my kids snoring
  • the smell of a freshly cleaned house
  • the light, smooth feeling of my hair after a haircut
  • sharp pencils
  • laughter
  • the way a baby smells
  • seeing my husband walk in the front door
  • Christmas morning
  • carmel filled Drumsticks
  • being able to hit the snooze button
  • a really good bargain

The greatest gift ever given is the one I sometimes take for granted the most. Thank you, Jesus, for paying the price of my sin.

belated birthday wishes

I feel like the biggest cotton-headed-ninny-muggins! I missed a VIP's birthday. Steph, you know how much I love ya, I hope you had a deliciously excellent birthday!!!

genius

Target is back in my good graces. They now have a "handle" they stick on bigger items to make them easier to carry. I wonder if I can carefully peel this one off and reuse it...

My girl has style

subconscious decision?

While I was picking up some pizza last night I noticed something. Once I paint our entryway, the colors of my house will be eerily similar to those inside of Papa Murphy's. Mmmm.

update on the Brown family quarantine

Both boys had quick strep tests done and both were negative. They will be cultured just in case. It could be a virus, it could be strep that's not showing up yet, who knows. Their throats are red, swollen and have pus so I just don't know. What I do know is that I have 3 kids here that are all a little sick, but not sick enough to stop fighting.

Can't take any more!

Miles has been feeling kind of funky for the past week or so. No stand-out symptoms, just tired and achy. Tonight he told me that his throat was a little sore so I took a peek and saw some nasty white spots back there. From what I've heard, that's what Strep throat looks like. I was going to take him into Urgent Care to get it checked out but the only thing open at 7:30 p.m. on a Sunday night is the ER. We decided that we would wait until morning and either go the Minute Clinic in Cub or to the regular clinic if need be. Then just as we were getting ready for bed Linus complained that HIS throat was sore. I looked at his and he has the same nasty stuff that Miles has in there. So it looks like I will be bringing them both in tomorrow. If they do have Strep, it will mean that all 3 of my kids will be on antibiodics.

Tomorrow is going to be the official Clorox Hard Surface day at my house, starting with the toothbrush drawer.

St. Patrick's Day in Maple Lake

Maple Lake lives for St. Paddy's Day. On Saturday we went to the parade with some friends. It was chilly but the kids had a good time scooping candy off of the street!

must see movie

Dustin and I watched Gone, Baby, Gone tonight. Excellent movie. I would say that it's the best movie I've seen in a very long time. I think Brenton wrote about it awhile back.

Great story, great acting. I was mad, I cried, I couldn't help but wonder what I would've done if put in similar situations. There was a lot of swearing but I don't think they could have cut it out. One cool thing was that there were no gratuitous sex scenes, in fact I think they show one couple kiss once and that's it.

Definitely a movie worth watching.

3 strikes, I'm out

I brought Greta into the clinic today. It turns out that she has an ear infection. That brings our total dental/medical visits this week to 3, one for each kid.

The cherry on top for this trip to the doctor was actually after the appointment. We were in the waiting area getting Greta's coat back on and getting ready to head out. There was only one other person in the entire waiting room and it happened to be a very large woman. In her sweetest voice, Greta said (quite loudly) "Mom, look, that lady has a baby in her belly!"

'Nuff said.

For real??

My mom sent me a link to a news story. Seriously, is this even possible?

I think I hate St. Louis

After Linus' doctor appointment today I was thinking about how much we are going to miss Dr. Welch when she gone. I mean, our family will miss their family for sure, but we'll miss her as our kids' doctor. It's been so great to have someone that we truly like, it makes doctor visits so much easier. So I've decided that instead of taking it out on the Welch family, I'll take it out on their future home. I hope the Cardinals come in last place.

good news, bad news

Last night Miles and Linus were playing in their room while I was getting supper on the table. I heard a few thumps and then an "owwwww!" Iwent in to see what was going on and saw Linus laying on the ground holding his foot. They had been jumping off of their bunkbed ladder when Linus got his injury. When I was reminding them that jumping off of the ladder is not allowed Miles said, "But the rule for our game is that we can't go up any farther than the 3rd step because THAT would be DANGEROUS." Anyway, Linus wouldn't put any weight on his foot. This morning he still couldn't walk so I decided to bring him into the doctor. They did some x-rays and the good news is that nothing is broken. The bad news is that there's not much that can be done besides giving it time to heal. Tonight I'm going to go out hunting for some type of shoe/boot for him to wear for a few days so he's able to put some pressure on it. Hopefully I'll be able to find something that will fit him and isn't terribly expensive. Wish me luck!

Dr. Dennis saves the day

We were playing Rock Band last night and in the middle of one of the songs, Miles stopped and said "One of my crowns just fell out." I almost passed out. I hate dental things more than just about anything. It wasn't really bugging him so we put the kids to bed and I called the dentist office this morning. Our pediatric dentist, Dennis Carreras, has 3 offices and is only in Monticello on Wednesdays so I knew that we would have to do some driving if we were lucky enough to get an appointment today. I have to say that we have the greatest group of people at Dentistry for Children! The nice gal on the phone got Miles an appointment at 11:00 in Sartell. As soon as we got to the office we were welcomed by 2 of my favorite dental assistants... I love them because they remember the kids and chat them up while we are there. Then Dr. Dennis (who is soo great with kids) came in and within minutes he had put the crown back on and we were good to go. I love these people... I'm hoping that my kids will grow up to not mind the dentist because of how much fun it is for them to go now.
