We got word last night that Dustin's grandma made it through surgery but was in pretty rough shape. They gave her a 50% chance of making it through the night. So Dustin's sister Rashelle and Dustin's mom, along with 2 of her sisters, packed up and headed down to Kansas to the hospital. They got there at 1 this afternoon. Grandma's vitals are a bit better and she's responding a little when people talk to her. She's not out of the woods but the staff are happy with her progress. Thanks for the prayers, keep them coming!

From the mouth of Greta: "Mom, you're my best day ever."

The right words at the right time.

prayer request

Dustin's grandma went in for hernia surgery a couple of months ago. Typically, hernia surgery is not a big deal but her story is different than most. First off, the doctor accidentaly nicked her lung and she had to recover from that. Then she was readmitted into the hospital because she couldn't eat and her belly was filling with fluid. She has been in and out of the hospital since, with no one being able to figure out what was wrong. They kept draining the fluid from her belly, did tests, but couldn't figure out where the fluid was coming from.

Yesterday they drained 7 liters of fluid from her and realized that during the original surgery the doctor had cut her bile duct. They also found that a nerve to the stomach had been cut. So today at 3 p.m. she will be having surgery (in a different hospital with a different surgeon) to fix these problems.

She is pretty weak from not eating for the past 6 weeks and her body is worn down. They didn't want to do the surgery until she had more strength but the doctor feels that it needs to be done NOW. Please keep her in your prayers. Also pray for Dustin's mom... this is her mom that is having the surgery and it had been pretty hard on her.

Trusting God

I read about a couple from Minnesota who had premature sextuplets in June. Only one has survived. Click here to read an amazing story of faith.

Deck the Halls

We decorated our tree and our house for Christmas on Sunday. This year was much better than in the past; the kids used to beg to do it, put 3 ornaments on the tree and then Dustin and I would end up finishing it all. All 3 kids really got into it this year! My favorite thing was watching Greta (and Linus) hang ornament after ornament in the same spot... we've got lots of drooping branches from all of the weight!

After decorating we had a "Christmas party" and turned the lights off and plugged the tree in. We watched A Charlie Brown Christmas and had hot chocolate.

Miles told us "My favorite part about Christmas isn't presents. It's decorating for Christmas. But I like to get presents too."

feelin' sassy

I was in both Target and WalMart last week and both stores were completely decked out for Christmas. Thanksgiving has not even passed yet! What is it with retail... as soon as one holiday passes, the next one begins even if it's premature. On December 26th we will be bombarded with hearts for Valentine's Day... and it's not even a real holiday (but I won't complain about the old-school candy hearts...delicious!).

Last January, Miles needed a new pair of snowpants (because his were lost at school) and I couldn't find them at any store. I asked a salesperson if they had any and she told me that they had already sold out and wouldn't be getting more because they were seasonal. SEASONAL. Yeah, as in the season we're still in! I'm not sure if anyone that runs that store checked, but winter in MN is usually just getting started in January.

O.k. I'm done ranting now.

must see you tube

Click here to see some amazing art from 'phil in the circle' off of You Tube. This guy lives in the Twin Cities and has a bunch of videos of cool art that he's made from things like Oreo cookies, grease from french fries, and matches. You will not be disappointed!

with tears in my eyes...

I learned today that a dear friend is moving. I knew it was coming, sooner or later, I guess I just hoped it would be later. Immediately I thought of the Michael W. Smith song, Friends:

Packing up the dreams God planted
In the fertile soil of you
Can't believe the hopes He's granted
Means a chapter in your life is through
But we'll keep you close as always
It won't even seem you've gone
'Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong

And friends are friends forever
If the Lord's the Lord of them
And a friend will not say "never"
'Cause the welcome will not end
Though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime's not too long to live as friends.

With the faith and love God's given
Springing from the hope we know
We will pray the joy you'll live in
Is the strength that now you show

It's a little cheesy, but so am I. I will miss the impromptu get togethers with my friend. I will miss her husband and her kids. They are only moving a couple hours away but it seems so far.

I guess it just means out meetings will have to be more deliberate. We have the phone and email and blogging to keep us together. Even though I'm (selfishly) sad, I'm happy and excited for them to have this new beginning.

Birthday Pics

My crazy art skills!
An Xbox 360?!!!
At Dustin's mom's.

Halloween pic

That's Linus as a Ninja Turtle, Greta as Dora and Miles as the "scary guy skeleton."
