It sounds like we're going to get more snow. I'm not really looking forward to it (where's Spring when you need it?) but my kids can't wait!

Dustin's dream come true!

All three of our kids are interested in music, and that is music to Dustin's ears! Right now Greta is really into playing his drums and singing. She'll stand in our living room singing as loud as she can (half real words and half in her own language!) She usually has some type of microphone in her hand: a pencil, marker, even our turkey baster. I think she may end up being our superstar!

move over Picasso!

Greta has been really into drawing on our white board lately. Her latest obsession is drawing fish... but she likes to give them arms and legs!

Congrats Miles!

Here are some pictures from the breakfast ceremony yesterday for The Students of the Season. The first is with the Elem. principal and the 2nd is with Miles' teacher, Mrs. Smith.

The next American Idol?

I love my kids. They are so sweet (most of the time!) :) Yesterday while the kids and I were driving to church, I was singing along with the radio. Miles said to me: "Mom, are you going to Hollywood? You sing sooooo good!"

Apparently he's as tone deaf as I am!

Student of the season!

We received a letter from school on Saturday that said Miles has been chosen as Student of the Season! Dustin and I will be taking him to a breakfast ceremony on Thursday before school.

Apparently Student of the Season is a small step above Student of the Month (I'm sure we'll learn more on Thursday.) We're just excited for Miles. The academic side of school has always come fairly easy for him but he has struggled with the social side. He has made some really good friends this year but is still a little overwhelmed when in a large group. We're hoping that this award will help boost his self confidence and get him to open up a bit more while at school.

Had to try it

I saw the Sesame Street Personality quiz on Welch's blog and had to do it. I always did those stupid quizes in teenybopper magazines when I was younger too.

You are Elmo!

Sweet and innocent, you expect everyone to adore you. And they usually do!

You are usually feeling: Talkative. You've got tons of stories to tell. And when you aren't talking, you're laughing.

You are famous for: Being popular, though no one knows why. Middle aged women especially like you.

How you life your life: With an open heart. "Elmo loves you!"

A funny from Linus

Apparently I've never actually explained to Linus what the word 'birthday' means. Yesterday I told him that I could hardly believe that it was 5 years ago that I went in to the hospital to have him (in my kids' words: came out of my belly.) He replied with a surprised tone, like it was a huge coincidence: "On my birthday?"

Linus had a great birthday. He got to celebrate 3 times with 3 different cakes! On Sunday after church we headed out to my parents' house to celebrate with the Youngs crew. It's always an adventure there with 10 grandkids running wild. Then we went to the Balvin's house for a Super Bowl party where they and the Freiwalds presented Linus with an awesome Spiderman cake. Last night we had Dustin's parents over and had the last birthday party. He received lots of cool presents in the last few days; Yu-gi-oh cards, his own Gameboy, a few Gameboy games, a Diego toy. Funny enough, his favorite present last night was the Hungry, Hungry Hippo game. Yes, the same game that was around a million years ago when I was a kid. Funny how everything comes full circle.

The waiting is over

Dustin and I are pumped! Lost is back with new episodes tonight after being off the air for a few months. We actually started watching it on DVD (the first 2 seasons) this year and watched the 6 new episodes from this fall on my niece's ipod. We've been waiting to see what will happen for awhile now. It will be hard to suffer through the commercial breaks but I think we'll make it through somehow! :)

Linus is 5!

I can hardly believe that it was 5 years ago today that Dustin and I went from one child to two. In my opinion it was the toughest transition our family has made (more so than no kids to one, and two kids to three!)

I can remember our trip to the hospital the night before he was born. We left about a half hour early just to drive around and decide on a name. We had it narrowed to about 5 but couldn't choose between them. I had wanted the name Linus when I was pregnant with Miles but the reaction we got from most everyone we told was not encouraging. On our drive to the hospital to have Linus we decided to use the name we wanted despite the reactions. I'm glad we did... I can't imagine him as anyone but our Linus. (side note... I can't count how many times we've been asked about the Peanuts comic strip. He was not named after the character, although Linus is my favorite in the Charlie Brown Christmas special. And the characters last name isn't Brown, it's Van Pelt in case you were wondering. I saw the name while going through the baby name book and just fell in love with it.)

Linus is definitely the "family clown." He makes us laugh all of the time, usually unintentionally. Just watching him eat can send Dustin and I into a giggle fit. He can, at times, be my most challenging child. On the flip side, he is also my most loving. He loves to snuggle and he expresses his affection freely. It is not uncommon for him to just walk up to me and give me a kiss and say "I love you mom" or say "Mom, you're so pretty!"

Happy Birthday Linus! You have been an unbelievable blessing to our family and we love you!

Will someone please remind me why I live in a state where there are days (or weeks) when it's dangerous to be outside because of freezing temperatures?

I wonder if there is a place in this world where the temp is always 79, no humidity, there are no poisonous creepy-crawlers, and cost of living is fair. Wouldn't that be delicious?
