Saying goodbye to the carefree days of summer and hello to the structured school year has one big drawback for my kids. Once school starts they don't get to spend as much time with their grandmas. As I've said before, the kids and I go out to my mom and dad's house on the lake just about every day in the summer. They have a great time swimming and playing but they also get to see Grandma Pat (my mom, pictured with Miles and Linus) a lot. She lets them get away with just about everything and feeds them too many treats... but isn't that what being a grandparent is all about?
During summer vacation the kids also get to spend much more time at Grandma Judie's house in Annandale (Dustin's mom, pictured with Greta.) Every so often when she has a day off she has "parties" with them. These parties consist of watching movies on her big screen TV while cozied up on her wrap-around couch which also doubles as their bed. And did I mention that she also feeds them too many treats?
My kids are blessed to have such awesome grandmas that live so close. And Dustin and I are lucky too... free babysitters! ;)
